Step 1: Complete the Special Olympics Ontario Intake Form
Please fill out the Volunteer Intake Form with Special Olympics Ontario (SOO). https://portal.specialolympics.ca/ontario/volunteer-registration
Or is that link doesn't work, please try this: Become a Volunteer Page
When prompted, please select:
Region: South Central Ontario
Community: West Niagara
This will ensure that your application is directed to our group.
Step 2: Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
This is usually the step that takes the longest to complete so I suggest applying as soon as possible.
Here is the link for ordering the report online or you can go apply in person: https://records.niagarapolice.ca/
A letter from SOO is needed as part of the PVSC application. If you are applying online you can attach it to your application or if you are applying in person at the Niagara Regional Police Station (45 Clarke St, Grimsby, ON L3M 3H3) then print the letter attached and bring it with you.
There is a small charge for the PVSC. But as part of our appreciation for our volunteers, we will reimburse you once you send us your receipt. Once you receive your PVSC, please email the Volunteer Coordinator and then we will add it to you profile.
Step 3: Volunteer Training
There is 1 online course that all volunteers must complete.
’Safe Sport - Direct Athlete Contact’ Training (under the Multi-Sport category)
Time: 60-90 minutes
No cost for this training.
The course is completed through the National Coaches Certification Program (NCCP). Assuming this is your first training through NCCP, please use this link to create your account. https://thelocker.coach.ca/account/login?mode=login
Once you have created an account, click on ELEARNING and under Available, select Safe Sport Training.
Once complete, please forward a screenshot to the Volunteer Coordinator showing the course completion date and your NCCP registration number. See proper example below:
